Individual Therapy for Mental Health
At Wings Recovery for Men individual therapy is at the core of the treatment experience. When you join one of our mental health treatment programs (Residential, PHP, or IOP) you will be assigned an individual therapist upon admission, and have your first session within 24 hours. We are proud to say that we offer more individual therapy than most any other mental health treatment facility around. At Residential and PHP level of care our clients are typically receiving at least four individual sessions a week. At IOP level of care clients usually get at least two individual sessions per week. We recognize the importance of the one on one care in the healing process and have therefore, made great efforts to make sure our clients receive multiple individual sessions per week.
We Provide An Individualized Approach to Treatment
Your individual therapist will ask you questions to get to know you and your story, and will work with you to develop a treatment plan to meet your needs. Whether you are coming to treatment for trauma and PTSD, depression, relationship issues or another mental health issue, your therapist will work with you to help you heal. From your very first session we are evaluating your needs and helping to structure your treatment plan to meet those needs.
Evidence-Based Therapy
Our therapists use a wide range of evidence-based therapies as part of your treatment. These may include Cognitive Behavior Health, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems®(IFS), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). We believe that it is important that the treatment plan we develop for you is based on research on what is most effective for your condition. Our skilled treatment team will make sure you are receiving the best care possible.
Individual Therapy Schedule
In our Residental and PHP programs, you will meet with your therapist twice per week for individual therapy. After transitioning to IOP, you will continue to see your therapist once per week. One of the great things about Wings Recovery for Men is that if you stay with us through the continuum of care (Residential to PHP to IOP), you will be able to work with the same therapist. This means that you will not have to retell your story when you step down from Residential treatment to PHP and that you can easily continue on the progress you have made as you titrate down the amount of treatment you receive.
All residential and PHP patients also have the option of meeting with an EMDR trained trauma therapist up to twice per week. Additionally, patients meet with a psychiatrist for medication management once per week and have nursing visits as needed.
All told, that’s up to six individual sessions per week—much more than is offered at most other treatment centers. This is one of the core features of treatment at Wings Recovery for Men, and a part of our program that we are very proud of.
At Wings Recovery for Men, you will never be left to suffer alone. We believe that the individual attention and care you receive at Wings is a crucial part of your successful recovery.
We Are Not Just Trauma-Informed, We Specialize In The Treatment of Trauma
Many treatment centers will say they are “trauma-informed.” This umbrella term can be used to mean a lot of different things. It does not necessarily mean that your treatment staff has specialized training in the treatment of trauma and PTSD. Many individuals go to a treatment center that claims to be “trauma informed” only to find out that they are not receiving any trauma treatment and many clients are told that they have to focus on other things (relationship issues, addiction, etc.) before they can treat their trauma. At Wings Recovery for Men, we believe the opposite. We believe that the treatment of trauma needs to be front and center. Waiting to treat the trauma often leaves a client prone to relapse of symptoms. We aim to treat the underlying trauma that is driving your distress.
At Wings Recovery for Men we spend quite a bit of time addressing issues of trauma. Even if you have not experienced a massive trauma in your life, you likely have experienced relational trauma and/or traumatic experiences that affect you. We offer various types of trauma support. We believe in both a top-down and a bottom-up approach to the treatment of trauma. This means that we teach both the skills to manage trauma symptoms (top-down) AND we work on removing the root of the trauma so that trauma memories no longer bother you (bottom-up). Our goal is for you to heal from trauma such that traumatic memories no longer have an effect on you and your life. We know this may sound hard to believe that people can no longer be bothered by traumatic memories, but it is true! Complete trauma healing is possible. We know because we have seen it and we do it.
We opened Wings Recovery for Men as a place that men can heal from trauma, a safe, distraction-free environment. And the men you meet in treatment may just become lifelong friends and companions on your road to recovery.
We have also worked hard to gain a seal of approval from the Joint Commission, the highest level of accreditation in the treatment field. Our Joint Commission approval is our guarantee to you to provide the highest level of therapeutic treatment in San Diego.
